When Miriam's marriage broke up in 1992, she decided she needed to make a new start, so she moved to Hastings, some 75 miles away.
"It was good to make a new life for myself and I was reasonably happy being single, but in 2005 with the big FIVE-O approaching, I couldn't help feeling that there was someone missing. Soon I had joined a number of dating sites ... Loads of dates ensued; I had a great time and met some lovely guys -- but not THE one.
"Around New Year 2008 I joined PARSHIP, having seen a commercial on TV. I had contact with a few men, but none of them really struck a chord. I saw Mark's profile and thought we matched quite well, but, after we exchanged a couple of emails, I discovered he lived in Wiltshire, about 150 miles away. Over the time I had spent online dating, I had never bothered to follow up properly with anyone more than 100 miles away, because it was impractical ... but I so enjoyed getting messages from Mark and writing to him.
"We talked about anything and everything and found a real connection. Finally, we decided to meet and had a truly magical and romantic first date in London on my birthday in January 2009. We watched Barack Obama's inauguration on a big screen in the Royal Trafalgar Bar, we had lunch in Covent Garden, went to see a film, released two balloons in Leicester Square (making a wish too) and spent the night in a five-star hotel overlooking the Thames.
"Now we're hoping to set up home together in Wiltshire. We have met each other's families: he has two parents, two children, five brothers and eight nephews and nieces, whilst I just have one parent, one brother and two nephews.
"We went to Malta together last June and have had weekends away in the UK, in London and Oxford. Mark drives down to Hastings most weekends so that we can be together, but it makes sense for me to relocate so that we can be together all the time."
