1.London

From culture to sights, sounds and beautiful parks and palaces, London is a top destination for romantic getaways not only for the British, but for people from all over the world. We think it’s so great, we wrote a whole post about romantic things you could see and do in London. If you already live there you could spice things up with a change of scene and get a hotel room for the night. It could rekindle both romance and your relationship with London itself.

2.Brighton

Dirty weekend favourite of many generations, Brighton has got a beach, and an endless list of superb restaurants coupled with excellent nightlife. There are plenty of cute little B&Bs and hotels to choose from and the countryside that surrounds it offers some beautiful scenery to boot.

3.Lake district

For nature lovers, this is a romantic getaway must – camping, hikes and, of course, lakes of breathtaking beauty. Cumbria’s scenic towns offer peace and quiet as well as great food and drink, if you’re not feeling so outdoorsy.

4.Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall

With beautiful sandy beaches, bustling villages and fine inland greenery, the Roseland peninsula is possibly the loveliest of the lovely Cornwall. For an even more romantic touch, get there by the Night Riviera sleeper train.

5.Glastonbury

Glastonbury is small, relatively peaceful and full of charm. Take a walk up to the famous Tor for amazing Somerset views or stroll through the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey for a peaceful day out. There are many B&Bs and some great restaurants to discover among the narrow streets. We’re also quite fond of the cider.

6.Gretna Green

We’ve already written about Edinburgh as a top romantic destination, so it’s time to talk about this tiny village with its rich history of “irregular marriages”. People have been eloping to marry here since the 1700s when the English marriage act put heavy restrictions on marriage within England. The local blacksmith’s shop apparently served as a makeshift chapel and the habit of being “married over the anvil” is still going strong today. Nearly 5000 couples a year marry in Gretna Green, which is enough to make the air itself smell romantic, we think.

7.Peak District

British natural beauty at its very finest – plenty of opportunities for romantic moorland walks.

8.Snowdonia

Waterfalls, mountains and forests are practically anyone’s idea of romance. Visit Betws-y-Coed village and take in the lot or relive the glory days of television series, The Prisoner by staying in the beautiful Portmeirion village by the sea (we’re pretty sure you won’t be any of those scary white blobs).

9.Scottish Highlands

Remote, secluded and mountainous, the Highlands were made for romance. They offer some of the finest scenery in the whole of the UK and if that’s not enough to tickle your romantic tastebuds, the countless castles surely will. Staying in one is practically comparable to a weekend in Paris.

10.Bath

Chilled enough to relax you, yet busy enough to entertain you Bath is a very popular getaway destination and rightly so. There’s nothing like a day at the spa to bring out the spark and the beautiful architecture itself will give you plenty to see as you wander through the streets.
