Online dating no-nos for men

Sometimes you could be doing everything right online and still not manage to get what you want immediately while dating online.

But before you guys put it down to temporary bad luck, here are five things to make sure you’re not doing while searching for love on the Internet.

1.Using a bad picture

While women are notorious for using overly good photos as their profile pictures, often resulting in a bit of disappointment on the actual date, men are well known for choosing pictures that don’t do them justice. Don’t be that guy. If you’re feeling clueless about what makes a good photo (and, to be honest, most men are) then ask someone else. A female friend, a sister, even a professional dating advisor if necessary. A good picture on your profile is important, even on sites like PARSHIP where more importance is placed on psychological profiling and compatibility.

2.Trying too hard

It’s hard to stand out online, especially when you’re a man. But often you see guys putting really curious things in their profiles or sending pretty random first messages in an attempt to be quirky and different. More often than not, it just makes women think you’re a weirdo. Never feel like you have to pretend to be someone you’re not to make women interested in you. And when writing a first message to someone, being friendly, respectful and concise is going to be a whole load better than trying to come up with a chat up line or acting like a pick up artist.

3.Coming on too strong

Don’t overwhelm your new friend with messages, texts and calls straight away as this could make women think you’re desperate. Express your interest in meeting and be consistent, but make your moves based on the responses you get from the woman. If she responds in kind and messages you often then great. Otherwise, match her pace before attempting to take things to the next level. Most women will still expect you to lead, so don’t depend on the woman to make the first move each time, but once you make your move, wait for her response before making another.

4.Ignoring the obvious

Pay attention to what site you’re on and what woman you’re talking to. On a site where people specifically want long term relationships, it won’t help you to state you’re looking for something casual. If a woman says on her profile she’s interested in meeting a particular type of guy and you’re not it, you should probably not contact her. Or if you do, make sure you’re respectful and aware and don’t get too wound up if she rejects you.

5.Being too cocky

You may have heard that women like confident guys, but there is a difference between confident and arrogant. Don’t spend too much time telling your potential partner how great you are, unless you want her to leave you alone with a mirror so you two can get it together instead. A little bit of modesty can go a long way, even if you do think very highly of yourself.
