Dating Myth – Waiting for Mr. Perfect

Is Mr. Perfect a dating myth or fact? Should we hold out being single and abstain from dating until our Prince Charming comes along? Let’s hear Donna’s dating story.

Donna came to me a few months ago to ask for dating advice and help her find her Prince Charming. Donna believed that her Mr. Perfect was just around the corner. The problem was which corner that was. Over the years, most of Donna’s friends’ got married, but Donna has eagerly held out in search of that One. She didn’t really bother dating because she felt she would instantly ‘know’ when she met him. Moreover, she felt that looking for him wasn’t necessary, because he was supposed to find her. Furthermore, she refrained from making any life decisions, such as buying a house or going to the many places in the world she wanted to visit, because she was supposed to do all of this with her Mr. Perfect.

Donna is waiting for Mr. Perfect. This is the biggest Dating Myth out there.  In case you haven’t already figured it out, Mr. Perfect doesn’t exist. There is no such thing as Mr. Perfect. Nobody is perfect, including you.

Some people really do believe there’s only one Mr. Right, while others believe you will meet a few of them.  Either way, you don’t want to be so wrapped up find the perfect partner that you think everyone who comes along is them, or even worse you try and reshape every person into the ideal you have in your head.

There is nothing wrong with believing in Fate, but you have to give Fate some room to do its work.  How are you going to meet people if you never make yourself available?

Even though ,there is no Mr. Perfect, there is a suitable partner for you that you are attracted to and who you can build a fulfilling relationship. And that is who you need to focus on finding. First drop your desire for perfection, and drop your idealized romantic notion that if he is right for you, you will immediately know. Then, without those pressures on your head, you can start to wonder about the actual human being you meet.  You may not even see “The One’ coming because you’re having too much fun getting to know them.
